Hobart Airport (HBA) is the major passenger airport in Tasmania, Australia. The gateway to Australia’s island state, the airport is situated in Cambridge, 17 km north-east of the city of Hobart. The airport maintains a conjoined domestic and international terminal which primarily services Jetstar Airways, Tigerair Australia, Virgin Australia, and Qantas. In 2019, the airport handled 2,600,000 passenger movements, making it the ninth busiest airport in the country. Hobart Airport has maintained customs and immigration facilities for incoming international aircraft for a number of years, despite not having a regularly scheduled international passenger service at any point in the last two decades.

There are several different transport services to and from Hobart Airport, from taxis to rideshare services, buses, car rental, as well as on-site and off-site airport parking. It’s important to note that there are no direct public transport links to Hobart Airport from the city - the closest alternative is the SkyBus Hobart Express.
There are several on-site and off-site car parks at Hobart Airport to choose from, including the Premium Car Park, Valet Parking, the Terminal Car Park, the Saver Car Park, and Airport Undercover Parking. Demand for parking spaces directly in front of the terminal building can be very high at times, especially around holidays periods and special events. The SkyBus company operates regular bus services between the airport and Hobart city. Buses depart every 30 minutes, 7 days a week, all year round. Tickets can be purchased in advance on the SkyBus website, or on the day from one of the e-kiosks located next to the luggage carousels. The buses make 6 stops in Hobart city, and depart from the Arrivals Hall forecourt (Gate 1).
There are 8 rental car offices at Hobart Airport, all located inside the Arrivals area. Drivers have the choice of Avis, Bargain Car Rentals, Budget, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz, Redspot, and Thrifty - all of which offer online and on-site reservation services. If you’re looking to rent a campervan or motorhome to explore Tasmania, we recommend booking ahead to secure a suitable vehicle.
Uber services are available at Hobart Airport, for both pick-up and drop-off. For those travelling to HBA using Uber, your driver will drop you off at the designed drop-off lane outside of the terminal. If you are requesting a ride, you will need to meet your driver at the designated pick-up area. A rideshare access fee of $3.85 is charged on every trip to/from Hobart Airport. The taxi rank at Hobart Airport is located directly outside the terminal building. Every arrival at HBA is met by taxis, which will take passengers into Hobart city in around 20 minutes. Minivans and special taxis can be arranged upon request - just ask one of the kerbside assistants to radio one through for you.
Hobart Airport opens at 4.00am daily, and closes at 10.30pm, around arriving and departing flights. Travellers are not permitted to stay in the airport overnight, and should instead consider staying at a nearby hotel. Check-in desks for all airlines, alongside self-service kiosks can be found in the middle of the terminal building, alongside a range of services and amenities:
ATMs: can be found at the Gate 1 Arrivals hall, next to Market Place Cafe, and to the left of the Departures lounge, close to Tasmania & Beyond retail shop.
Drinking Fountains: are located at the Gate 1 Arrivals hall, near the baggage carousels, and in the Departures lounge by Gate 6.
Duty Free and Shopping: is not available at HBA at the time of writing.
Food and Drink: vendors are located in both Departures and Arrivals. There are dining options to suit most tastes and budgets, offered by a range of local restaurants and cafes which include The Market Place, Red Square HBA, Tiger Tales, The Kitchen, and the Ground Up Cafe.
Lounge Services: are accessible via the Qantas Club. If you’re not flying with Qantas Airlines, you can purchase a Qantas Club membership to enjoy the business services and available refreshments. The Saffire Freycinet brand offers its own Saffire Airport Lounge service to hotel guests (only), between 9.00am and 5.00pm daily.
Mobile Charging: ports are scattered around the Departures area.
Retail Shops: can be found near Departures, providing travellers with the opportunity to stock up on last-minute flight essentials and souvenirs. Vendors include Australian Way, Tasmania & Beyond, and Runway News.
Smoking Areas: can be found outside of Arrivals, at the end of the terminal, and at the far end of the Drop-off/Pick-up area. Both of the designated smoking areas are clearly signposted and are equipped with cigarette bins.
Toilets & Baby Change Facilities: are spread throughout the terminal building. Over the counter medicines and personal hygiene products can be purchased from the Runway News newsagency in the Departure Lounge.
WiFi: is available free of charge at Hobart Airport.

The Travelodge Hotel Hobart Airport is located just outside of the airport grounds, and operates a shuttle bus to service to/from the terminal, while the BIG 4 Hobart Airport Tourist Park offers cabin rentals and campervan parking.
Passenger numbers at Hobart Airport are expected to double within a decade, as a result of an ambitious two-fold expansion plan. Phase one of the plan, which is expected to be completed by December 2020, involves the expansion of the existing Departures lounge and facilities, plus the airport’s international processing capacity. Phase two is set to be completed by 2030, and involves redeveloping the baggage processing facilities and adding further retail, food, and beverage offerings.
