Update: Australian Airport Parking & the Coronavirus

airport-parking-05b0f5-1

Most Australian airports are currently experiencing heavily reduced capacity, in terms of servicing arriving and departing passenger flights, as well as freight traffic, due to efforts to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 Coronavirus. This has greatly impacted the number of vehicles parking in and around the airport zones, and has led to car park closures. In this blog post, we’d like to answer the questions most people are asking us about airport parking, and provide a series of links and resources to assist travellers whose plans have changed unexpectedly.

You can also check out our dedicated COVID-19 FAQ page for the very latest information on how to request a refund for your Flyparks booking, should you find yourself unable to travel due to the international travel restrictions currently in place.

Adelaide Airport

All of the on-site car parks owned and operated by Adelaide Airport remain open at this time, however the bus services between the budget parking facilities and the terminals have ceased. If you require budget parking with an operational shuttle service, we recommend checking the availability of the off-site Adelaide Airport parking services.

  • The Long Term Car Park shuttle bus service has ceased indefinitely
  • Travellers who have booked at any of Adelaide Airport’s official on-site car parks can change or cancel their reservation in the ‘Manage my booking’ area of the Adelaide Airport website. Standard terms and conditions apply

Ballina Byron Gateway Airport

The on-site car parks at Ballina Byron Gateway Airport are open, however it is not possible to book a space online. If you would prefer to reserve your parking spot in advance, we recommend considering off-site Ballina Airport parking options.

Brisbane Airport

Due to diminished demand, Brisbane Airport has closed its budget park and ride facilities. Travellers who wish to book low cost parking are advised to seek alternative options in the meantime. To check the availability of off-site car parks, please visit our Brisbane Airport parking page.

  • The AIRPARK Car Park has been temporarily closed
  • Cancellation fees have been waived until further notice, for all of the official Brisbane Airport car parks. To amend or cancel your airport parking booking, please consult Brisbane Airport’s website

Cairns Airport

All three of Cairns Airport’s official car parks remain open, including the T1 Long Term Car Park, the T2 Long Term Car Park, and the Premium Covered Car Park. Online bookings can be made through the Flyparks website for both covered and uncovered Cairns Airport parking.

Gold Coast Airport

Facilities at Gold Coast Airport are open when passenger services are operating. The opening hours of many of the airport’s facilities have been reduced in response to the travel restrictions in place to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Hobart Airport

The on-site car parks owned and operated by Hobart Airport are currently open. The airport has extended its free parking offer until the 30th of June 2020.

  • Vehicles parked within the official Hobart Airport car parks will not be charged for their stay, as long as they exit prior to June 30
  • Travellers who are unable to collect their car before the end of June, and those who have already made a parking reservation for June should get in touch with the airport’s customer service team to discuss their situation. Please visit Hobart Airport’s website for more information
  • Off-site Hobart Airport parking can be arranged on the Flyparks website

Launceston Airport Parking

Both the on-site and off-site car parks at Launceston Airport remain open. Online bookings for off-site Launceston Airport parking can be made via the Flyparks website.

Mackay Airport

Each of the three official Mackay Airport car parks are currently open, including the Uncovered Short Term Car Park, the Covered Short Term Car Park, and the Long Term Car Park. Online bookings can be made through the Flyparks website for both covered and uncovered Mackay Airport parking.

Melbourne Airport

If you are required to make an essential trip prior to the 30th of June 2020, you can use the At Terminal T123 Car Park free of charge. Online bookings at any of the official Melbourne Airport car parks will not be available or required during this period.

  • Online bookings will be available for all car parks for travel from the 1st of July 2020 onwards, via Melbourne Airport’s official website
  • Travellers who have pre-booked parking at any of Melbourne Airport’s official car parks are encouraged to cancel their booking, via Melbourne Airport’s website
  • Off-site Melbourne Airport parking can be arranged on the Flyparks website

Newcastle Airport

At present, the Long Term Car Park at Newcastle Airport is primarily being used for rental car storage. Unconfirmed reports circulating online suggest that the car park is being used to store hundreds of unused hire cars, with the approval of the airport itself. Bookings can still be made on the official Newcastle Airport website, however it is unclear as to how many spaces are available.

Perth Airport

At present, all of Perth Airport’s official car parks remain operational. Travellers who have been caught up in the compulsory 14 day quarantine arrangements will not be charged additional parking fees, if their vehicle is stuck within one of the official, on-site parking facilities.

Sydney Airport

Several of the official Sydney Airport car parks have been closed in response to the diminished demand. Travellers are advised to see alternative parking options in the meantime. To check the availability of off-site car parks, please visit our Sydney Airport parking page.

  • Due to the reduction in domestic flights arriving and departing from Sydney Airport, the P3 Car Park and the Blu Emu Car Park have been temporarily closed
  • Both the domestic and international Sydney Airport valet parking services have been temporarily closed
  • Friends and family are permitted to pick up arriving passengers from the T2 and T3 Domestic Terminals, provided that they adhere to the social distancing rules

  • To amend or cancel your airport parking booking, please consult Sydney Airport’s official website
